How to claim on Car Insurance Policy

When claiming on your car insurance policy,  you need to prepare your claims documents.  It is very important to complete the checklist before you submit it to your agent/broker or the insurance company. Incomplete documents can result in delays.  For the record of the claims department of all car insurance companies in the Philippines, day 1 starts upon the submission of the complete claims documents.  Listed below are the most important documents that you must prepare.

1. Photocopy relevant documents.  Insurance policy and its official receipt, driver’s license,  vehicle OR, and CR are among the documents that needed to be provided.

2.  Police report –   in the absence of the police report,  an affidavit of an accident is required.  Both documents have to be notarized.

3.  Photos of the vehicle insured.   Apart from the damaged or stolen part,  include also the plate number/registration number of the car.  This will help the claims adjuster to identify the insured vehicle.

4.  Repair estimate.  To be able to process the claim quickly, a repair estimate should be included in the file.  You can go to the car dealer or accredited repair shop for your car insurance company.

Upon the submission of the required documents, a good claims adjuster working in a reputable insurance company should be able to settle the claim between 1 to 3 days.  The duration of the settlement process also depends on the complexity of the claims.  Some claims can takes weeks or months.

In the case of carnapped vehicles,  the client has to report the incident to Camp Crame and should wait at least 3 months and get a certificate of no recovery.

In third party related claims, a certificate of no claim is required.

Once the Letter of Authority (LOA) is released you can now take your car to the dealer or auto repair shop to start the work.  Some claims can be settled in cash.  In this case, the insurance will pay you in cash minus your deductible or participation.
